The Republican Kurash Championship Commences in Ancient Samarkand: International Referees Enhance Their Qualifications

Today, in the ancient and eternally youthful city of Samarkand — situated at the crossroads of the Great Silk Road — the Republican Kurash Championship among the military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan and officers of law enforcement agencies has officially begun.

Samarkand is not only a cradle of historical monuments but also the city where the forefathers of the great commander, Sahibkiran Amir Temur, rest. According to historians, Amir Temur himself was a skillful warrior and a strong athlete, and physically powerful, masterful kurashchies held a highly respected position within his army. Hosting a major national championship of Kurash — our national heritage — in such an environment carries deep symbolic significance.

Within the framework of the championship, the main practical session of the international training seminar for Kurash referees was also held.

The seminar brought together foreign referees from Iran, India, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, as well as neighboring Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The participants enhanced their professional qualifications by officiating real matches during the championship.

The Republican Championship was attended by the Rector of the International Kurash Institute, Khabibulla Tadjiev; Secretary General of the International Kurash Association, Reza Nassiri; Head of the Administration of the International Kurash Association, Mansur Mirzaev; Secretary General of the Uzbekistan Kurash Federation, Alisher Eshonkulov; Head of the Academic Department of the International Kurash Institute, Kim Eurjoong; and other officials.
