The system for training kurash specialists will be further improved

Yesterday, the President of the International Kurash Association, Mr. Haidar Farmon, visited the only educational institution specializing in training sports specialists in Central Asia – the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports. The distinguished guest was warmly welcomed by the university staff, led by Rector Rashid Matkarimov. The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the International Kurash Association, Mohammad Rizo Nassiri, the Rector of the International Kurash Institute, KHabibulla Tadjiev, and the Vice-Rector of the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports, Sherzod Mirzanov.

Currently, more than 10,000 students are studying at the university in 45 different fields. The Kurash Faculty is the largest academic department of the university. Over 50 professors and teachers are working in the faculty, and more than 1,000 students are enrolled in the bachelor’s and master’s programs.

Initially, a bilateral meeting was held, during which the following issues were discussed: further popularizing the sport of kurash, regularly organizing international training seminars in kurash, promoting these activities on a broader scale, and the possibility of hosting Asian and World Championships among youth in the kurash sports complexes of the university.

Additionally, during the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports and the International Kurash Institute to further develop national kurash in the country and worldwide, improve the system for training highly skilled athletes and specialists, implement the decree No. 450 of December 20, 2024, titled “Measures to Develop and Popularize Kurash as a National Sport,” and train professional kurash coaches and referees, organize retraining programs, create teaching materials, and strengthen the scientific-methodological base of kurash.

It is worth noting that within the framework of the cooperation memorandum between the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports and the International Kurash Institute, nearly ten international and national seminars and training sessions were organized over the past two years. This year, two sessions of a 3-month online course in kurash specialization, along with a one-week practical training, will be held in collaboration with the university.

During his visit, the distinguished guest also reviewed the lessons of a three-month language course for future kurash coaches and the training sessions of students specializing in kurash.
